A quiet afternoon at a popular Norfolk Broads pub took a dramatic turn today after an unexploded bomb was pulled from the river, prompting a full-scale emergency response.
The discovery was made around 1:42pm near the King's Head on Station Road in Hoveton, when a magnet fisher stumbled upon the wartime device at the junction with Norwich Road.
Police swiftly evacuated the pub and surrounding area, establishing a 100-metre safety cordon. Station Road has been closed to all traffic as a precaution.
Emergency services, including police and fire crews, are currently at the scene. The British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Colchester has been deployed and is en route to safely handle the device.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while the situation is being assessed.
