In June 2022, Charlotte Blockley made her first foray into TikTok Shop-seekers, driven by the ambition of earning extra money that would pay for taking her daughter on a "once-in-a-lifetime Disney World holiday."
TikTok Shop is an e-commerce feature of the globally popular video-sharing website allowing creators to tout merchandise and product-review for commissions from sales derived thereof. Mrs Blockley said that she makes tens of thousands of pounds reviewing merchandise.
Her big break came in June 2022, when one review she did on a showerhead saw her sales increase fourfold. That was quite unexpected and made her reevaluate her priorities, especially since the job in property law was not secure, with talks of redundancies hanging in the air. In January 2023, she took a leap of faith and quit her legal job to commit full-time to her newfound digital profession.
This content creator from Stalham, without ever having sold anything previously, managed to achieve what nobody else has: she was the very first TikTok Shop seller to go gold after clearing over a million interactions in one month this November 2023.
"My highest-earning videos have been about air fryer deals, android tablets, and bulk toilet paper," she said.
Charlotte Blockley, or "charzreviews" to her growing TikTok fanbase, has garnered a huge 180,000 followers and chalked up an astonishing five million plus likes across all her videos.
"I just can't explain how much this journey has turned my life and my family's life around," she said.
"It's still surreal even now because, you know, at the end of the day I am still an average person.
Filming all her content from the comfort of her home, her most recent videos have reviewed swimwear, lip balm, and a makeup bag.
"I am not a celebrity, neither am I a high-profile influencer, but I did something beyond the ordinary. For that, it's a big achievement," she added.
