On the Norfolk Broads, a duo found themselves in a perilous predicament, necessitating a dramatic rescue operation after their vessel began sinking, triggering a helicopter-assisted search on the Broads.
The incident unfolded near Wroxham Broad around 8 p.m. yesterday when their boat started taking on water, leaving them stranded. An urgent 999 call to HM Coastguard set in motion a swift and coordinated response from multiple emergency units.
Humberside Coast Guard rapidly mobilised rescue teams, summoning the Hemsby Lifeboat crew alongside the Bacton and Winterton Coastguard contingents to aid in the mission. Given the daunting challenge posed by the enveloping darkness and scant information regarding the vessel's exact position, the Coastguard deemed it prudent to dispatch its search-and-rescue helicopter to comb through the Wroxham vicinity.
The Hemsby Broads Rescue team adeptly pinpointed the imperilled vessel on the River Bure, not far from the broad. Employing a portable pump to stem the ingress of water, the team worked diligently to stabilise the situation. The distressed individuals were then safely transferred into the care of Coast Guard personnel.
A representative of Hemsby Lifeboat reflected on the operation, stating: "This was a seamless and efficacious rescue, underscoring the exemplary synergy among emergency services. We extend our gratitude to the Coastguard teams and our crew for their impeccable coordination throughout this collaborative endeavour. Most importantly, we are relieved the individuals involved emerged unscathed and in good health."
