Nottingham Man Dies After Falling from Boat in Great Yarmouth: Family Devastated by Tragedy on the Broads

Post by NBF »

A man from Nottinghamshire, Callum Bell, tragically lost his life after falling from his boat while on holiday in the Broads, specifically in Great Yarmouth. The accident occurred as Mr. Bell, who was in his 50s, slipped from the stern of the vessel, a 44-foot Brinks Lullaby, which had been moored at the time. Despite the immediate reaction of his family, who heard the fall and rushed to investigate, the strong current swiftly carried Mr. Bell away from the boat and out of reach. The incident happened as dusk was approaching, making the situation even more challenging.

Emergency services were called and managed to retrieve Mr. Bell from the water, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after. His family has expressed their devastation, describing themselves as "heartbroken" by the loss.

This tragedy is one of several recent incidents in Norfolk waters, marking the fourth death in just four days. Other victims include a man in his 20s who died on Wroxham Broad, a man in his 30s found in the River Wensum, and a man in his 70s who passed away while swimming off Brancaster beach. These deaths have led to renewed warnings from authorities, including the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, urging those visiting the Broads to adhere to water safety guidelines. Their advice includes wearing lifejackets, understanding how to 'float to live,' avoiding alcohol and drugs, and being vigilant about potential hazards like reeds, deep water, and the risk of cold water shock.
