A considerable cavity measuring four feet in diameter has been isolated in a pub's beer garden following a water mains rupture and the potential subsidence of a flood defence mechanism.

This unfortunate event has manifested in the garden of Norada Grill and Tavern, situated on Bridge Road, Potter Heigham, consequent to a water mains rupture reported around 7 p.m. on Monday.

Proprietor Costa Mantilaris commented, "The deluge commenced towards the Broads, and Anglian Water arrived within the hour to address the breach.

"It's a significant four-foot chasm in the beer garden, now cordoned off, resulting in a decline in our patronage.

An observer noted that Anglian Water intervened promptly to mitigate the leak. "With the approach of a bustling bank holiday, we've lost six benches, rendering the beer garden unsightly, which is a pivotal feature beside the river.

"Patrons desire the ambience of the beer garden for a drink, not confinement indoors."

The Norada had scheduled an outdoor festivity for its seventh anniversary in June, featuring a live vocalist and a canopy set up in the beer garden.

Mantilaris further lamented, "Resolution will span weeks. Even if the void is filled, subsequent tasks include gravel replacement and resurfacing, pushing repairs to late June.

"Since Monday, Anglian Water has not communicated further, leaving us in the dark, which is quite distressing."

The disruption has been localised on Bridge Road, Potter Heigham, adjacent to the Old Bridge and Norada pub house.

Reports indicate the mains rupture stems from a fracture, compromising the flood defence wall, described as significantly damaged. The terrain near the bridge is visibly subsiding.

Comments have been solicited from Anglian Water, Norfolk County Council, and the Environment Agency.
