In years gone past, long before the advent of pumping toilets, there once was a place all sailors went for their daily personal bodily duties.
The toilet if you could call it that was placed at the bow of the ship, pretty much as far up as possible, the nearer to the head of the ship the better. The sailors would go about their business with the wave action coming along to wash everything away.
If you look at this photo and see the square sections on either side then that is the toilets.
