Stinky Stalham

Can Stalham cope with such a large fleet of hire boats pumping out sewage?
Local's olfactory senses would say that's a negative.

That'll be Stalham sewage works, just off the A149 to the north of the moorings about 3/4 mileaway, with a normal wind direction the pong blows out towards the coast..

No, I would have to say it comes from the staithe road. A local female resident was having a shower recently when it all came up her drains. Imagine that.
What size would a holding tank be on an average hire boat?
A bit yuck I know but the local sewers can't handle the deluge by all accounts.
Makes sense when you think about it. A household might have a gradual disposal where as a flotilla or fleet would be more like a biblical flood lol.
The worst area tends to be just after Baker's but before the Broads Museum.
You don't want to be walking past having an ice cream.
In addition, boat pump outs can be offer a horendous smell.
A couple of years ago I was just about to get stuck into lunch at Stalham Staithe when the smell from a pump out at Moonflower left me running for the cabin.
I sent them a polite email suggesting there was a problem.
A couple of days later I was back and I received an email stating it was the wind lol, however, at exactly the same time an engineer was busy replacing the parts.

All Richardsons pump out goes into a holding tank which Is emptied once a week by 2 gully trucks, during the height of the season the holding tank sometimes back feeds up through the Elsan point near the side of the first shed on the way through the gate, it can get a bit sore on the nose then.
A boat makes a big hole in the water in to which you throw money

There was a downpour the other day which didn't last very long. During that time the library at Stalham flooded and so too did much of Sutton.
I'd hate to see what would happen if there was ever a tidal surge in the Norfolk Broads or sea levels rose.
Might be time to consider some storm drains or improvements to the infrastructure.
Last winter Wroxham was flooded for months.

The 1912 floods of Norfolk, could easily happen again although this time they would claim it's global warming.
