During the days of the North Walsham & Dilham Canal, Dilham Staithe was not where it is today and was actually nearer Smallburgh.
The staithe as you know it now has what is described as a replica of a canal bridge.
On closer examination of it today, I can see a hidden tunnel waterway.
Not the clearest photo but next time you are up there have a look and you will see a hidden arch.
Anyway back to topic.
There once existed a Dilham Lake or Broad.
It was 25 acres in size and also had a water mill which I understand is still visible, well the wheel house might be.
All turned back into pasture apparently.
