I have been lucky to see a couple of these amazing birds on one occasion. All be it a fleeting glimpse from a distance but I was awe inspired by it's size.
I believe they have the largest wingspan of UK birds...an impressive 8 feet.
Much like the Bittern, a rare but wonderful sight.
They appear to like the water soaked fens often set back from the river.
Apparently they were hunted to extinction in 1600s which is nothing short of horrendous.
