Pigeon Watch

Post by Dances With Otters » October 15th, 2017, 9:15 am

Very windy the other night and a nest was disrupted and all the young fell to the ground and perished. All except one. Others were still in the eggs.
The parent pigeon, for want of better words, has come back and located the surviving pigeon and has been feeding it. So we thought we would give it every chance it has.
We put some wood around it to protect it but sadly someone removed it all in the early hours of the morning, probably quite oblivious to its purpose.
A new one has been created looking more nest like and with a bit of luck the little bugger might get to spend some more time where it was intended to be.
Recently I have seen a swan with pike lures wrapped around it and an Egyptian goose with fishing line wrapped around its legs so tightly it could not use its leg.
The bird life on the Norfolk Broads is not protected enough in my opinion and now with the bins gone and the inevitable invasion of one use plastics, this place environmentally is in **** Street.

The yellow post by the way was fished out of the river.

Firstly well done for saving the poor little pigeon far too many people would bother , looking at its its super tiny and would deffinatly require a parent to feed it but required shelter too shame some one couldn't spot what you had done for this bird and removed it 😟 .
As for anglers some of them have zero respect for their surrounding's and the wild life around them , and what with them leaving rubbish about and the ridiculous bins situation the whole place resembles a tip in places .
My resident pigeon Dave says a big thank you for saving a tiny bird which most wouldn't bother with .

Think it might need some more practice.

Just found out what happened.
Over the past few days it has been getting stronger and stronger.
Some fisherman decided to give it a load of maggots so of course everyone thought it was riddled with them and hence the bird welfare have taken it away, probably to put it down

Oh for fucks sake what the hell is wrong with fishermen , maggots for God sake they might have well fed it a curry , it astounds me how bloody stupid people can be when it comes to nature , its easy if you don't know then you find out hence the internet !!! .
Poor little birds did nothing wrong but humans again kill the animals through lack of knowledge , mine loves sunflower hearts and all seeds like birds do though he has been known to nick a Pringle a few times 😜
