It has been said that the word, 'Posh' was a phrase coined to refer to 'Port Out Starboard Home', although this has been disputed. Supposedly referring to the best side of a ship when leaving either Indian or English ports which could make sense when referring to plausibility but clearly not from every port. Getting out of the heat of the sun was the main concept adding to being in a more comfortable cabin. In fact it does sound like a load of tosh to me but interesting all the same.
