Having A Meal On A Wet Table Cloth

Post by Dances With Otters » November 9th, 2017, 2:10 pm

Apparently, sailors would eat their food on top of a wet table cloth to stop the crockery from falling aboard.
I have not validated this yet but as it was on Twitter, then it must be real.

It doesn't really have to be wet, just thick enough for the crockery to be able to 'settle' onto it. I often put a tea towel under a chopping board to stop the board moving around on our varnished table, stops the board moving around.
