Its all part of the amazing things that we get to see on the broads. It doesn't make it right, but there's something different to see every day (and night).
I've sailed at see at night and seen ships lit up like small towns. Not cruise ships, but huge cargo ships, often at anchor. They can be quite useful when there are no stars to use as a bearing for navigation as you can see them from miles away. ( pick them up on the AIS first to make sure they're not under way though).

I must say it looked stunning coming in to moor in the dark
It reminded me of Close Encounters 70's movie but without the aliens and music.
