Eberspacher Heating

Post by nimue » October 27th, 2017, 10:30 am

Out heater started to make some 'fluffing' noises on startup last week, and it wouldn't respond to the thermostat setting properly, so we sent it off to be serviced.
What a difference! Now that its starting to cool down in the evenings we're very glad we got it sorted, proper cosy down below at night now.

The other thing we noticed, while we had no heater, we ran the engine for an hour just before it started getting dark to get the engine warm, the residual heat kept the edge off the chill for the whole evening.

Are they easy to service? I would not mind one actually although I love a wood burner, it means you have to monitor the boat.

In theory yes, but you need a little special tool to do it yourself.
You can get all the manuals and parts lists on line, and the guys at http://www.letonkinoisvarnish.co.uk/ are really helpful.

We've been using ours for three winters now, and had it serviced for the first time last October. Total cost for the service was about 90 quid from memory, so spread over time its not expensive, anf having it done by the experts gives peace of mind and a guarantee so thats why we had it done.
The service reduced the fuel consumption, worth every penny. The cool thing is that its programmable, just set it for half an hour before you want to get up and ...bliss, warm boat. Otherwise, on manual, it warms the boat up in about 15 minutes.

Funny thing though, we would love a little wood burner.

Its been a while since we talked about heat, but it's already getting a bit chilly in the evenings.
Last time we described the benefits of an Eberspacher, and it worked great all winter. The one downside was the cost. when we had all the snow and the temperatures dropped we were spending up o 20 quid a week, admittedly we were on board most of the time, but that soon adds up.
So here it is, this winter's heating is now installed and up and running.

It took a while to instal, all the correct fireproofing etc but its all up to spec for a boat.
One probelm was that it had to go into the space where the cooker used to sit, so after a rethink we ditched the gas all together and went for one of these......

Whilst the old gas cooker had a little oven, it wasn't really up to much so we didn't use it a great deal but it was handy. After looking around we bought one of these

So far its all an excellent combination. Woodstove is great for long slow cooking. The Alcohol cooker works just as well as the gas, and the Halogen oven is great.
Sorry the picture of the woodstove is sideways, tried all sorts but couldn't correct it.
