Authorities may initiate an examination of the authorisation of a prominent inn situated on the Norfolk Broads following a sequence of grievances regarding revelries at the contentious establishment.

The Beauchamp Arms, positioned along the banks of the River Yare, is at risk of losing its alcohol license after several objections were lodged with the police and South Norfolk Council (SNC).

One protest concerning noise emanated from a vessel anchored at Coldham Hall, approximately 2.5 miles distant. Additional complaints extended across a broad expanse of the Yare valley, spanning from Rockland St Mary to Hassingham.

The disclosure that the pub is under review surfaced during an SNC licensing committee gathering held on Tuesday.

The assembly convened to deliberate a plea for a provisional license to host a nocturnal revelry at the pub in February 2024.

A representative from the council mentioned that a review was under serious consideration, but further details couldn't be expounded upon.

The proposition for the after-hours license, termed a temporary event notice, was rebuffed by the committee.

Despite the proprietorship belonging to Raymond Hollocks, the submission for the temporary license was lodged by Callum Richardson, the organizer of the event. An earlier celebration in July enticed approximately 400 merrymakers and featured 32 disc jockeys.

Ali Pridmore, an environmental safeguard officer at SNC, attended to monitor the gathering, accompanied by law enforcement, as previous occasions had triggered grievances.

Mr. Pridmore informed the assembly that Mr. Hollocks displayed an attitude of disregard and defiance.

Although absent from the committee session, Mr. Hollocks accused the official of being "impolite and confrontational" and lodged a complaint against him.

Contrary to Mr. Hollocks' claim, body-worn camera footage scrutinised by the police contradicted this assertion.

The committee was apprised that the pub is located in a low-lying, flat terrain, and various factors such as wind direction could result in sound carrying over substantial distances.

Mr. Hollocks has been embroiled in multiple disputes with the local council and the Broads Authority concerning the Beauchamp Arms, as well as his other Broads establishments at Berney Arms and Loddon Marina.

Both he and his son, William Hollocks, face prosecution by the Broads Authority over an enduring controversy involving caravans on the Beauchamps Arms premises.

Both parties deny the accusation of failing to adhere to enforcement directives issued by the authority, as declared in Norwich Magistrates' Court.

The case is slated to revisit the court in the future.

Revving Up the Night: Drum and Bass Extravaganza Approved at Beauchamp Arms on Norfolk Broads

In a bold move, councillors have given the green light for an electrifying drum and bass event at the contentious Beauchamp Arms on the scenic Norfolk Broads. Scheduled to pulsate until the early hours of December 9, this dance music spectacle has garnered approval from the South Norfolk Council (SNC).

The Riverside Rhythm: Beauchamp Arms Gears Up

Nestled on the banks of the River Yare, the Beauchamp Arms, under the stewardship of Raymond Hollocks, is set to host this groundbreaking event. Despite recent controversies, including a looming licensing review and an impending court case, the venue is poised to deliver a night of unbridled musical fervour.

A New Maestro: Jamie Lloyd Takes the Stage

In a twist, the event will not be orchestrated by the pub's owner, Mr. Hollocks. Instead, the responsibility falls on the shoulders of Jamie Lloyd, the applicant for this musical spectacle. SNC's licensing committee gave the nod to this venture just weeks after rejecting a previous licence due to noise complaints.

Decibel Dilemma: Balancing Act for Beauchamp Arms

The Beauchamp Arms has not been without its share of challenges, as noise complaints echoed from a boat moored 2.5 miles away at Coldham Hall and various locations across the Yare Valley, spanning from Rockland St Mary to Hassingham. Both meetings were convened to address the issuance of a 'temporary event notice’ (TEN), extending the venue's operational hours until 3 am—an additional two hours beyond its standard licence.

The Sound of Compromise: A Closer Look

During the recent meeting, familiar noise complaints resurfaced. However, it was disclosed that no alterations were made to mitigate the noise. Surprisingly, there were no grievances when Mr. Lloyd previously organised an event at the pub.

Legal Harmony: SNC's Perspective

A solicitor representing SNC conveyed, “The committee chose to grant the TEN based on the promoter's history, especially as he committed to utilising a smaller sound system than the one currently installed in the venue.” This decision aligns with the objective of balancing entertainment with community concerns.

Applause or Backlash? Hollocks Reacts

Upon hearing the decision, Mr. Hollocks expressed his approval, deeming it the "absolutely correct" choice. He also voiced his surprise at the potential licence review revelation, stating, “Nothing has been said to us about it.” Defending the event's significance, he highlighted its vital role in sustaining the historic pub's viability.

The Melody of Progress: Hollocks' Commitment

Undeterred by challenges, Mr. Hollocks underscored their commitment to managing noise levels. Notably, the pub exceeds licensing requirements by hiring additional security for events, ensuring a harmonious blend of entertainment and community considerations.

In conclusion, the rhythmic beats of drum and bass are set to reverberate through the Beauchamp Arms, marking a milestone event amid the venue's recent controversies. As the night unfolds on December 9, it remains to be seen whether this musical extravaganza will strike the right chord with both enthusiasts and sceptics alike.
